Chimo’s Youth Mental Health Court Worker (YMHCW) provides support to young people with identified or suspected mental health needs and that involved in the Youth Justice system within the City of Kawartha Lakes. This worker can assist linking youth that are experiencing conflict with the law to appropriate mental health services as well as connecting them to other community resources that they may require.

Who this service is for:

This support is for youth ages 12-18 (less a day).

Service Location

Lindsay Court Building and Chimo’s main office in Lindsay.

Commitment

Both court support and the mental health diversion program are voluntary but require full participation from the young person charged. Family support is highly recommended.

Referral Process

Should the courts determine or suspect that a youth has mental health needs that may be contributing to their conflict with the law, they may suggest a mental health diversion. In this instance, the worker will facilitate the development of a mental health diversion agreement, in collaboration with the Crown. This is done collaboratively working with the youth and their family to develop a plan to access and receive appropriate mental health services.
