Crisis Services


Crisis services typically begin with a telephone call to our crisis line. Youth and the parent/guardian of younger children can contact the Chimo crisis line at 705-324-3300 ext 500 when they are concerned about the safety of their child.

Chimo’s crisis program operates Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm except for holidays. When you call you will leave a message and your call will be returned by a worker generally within the hour. Please be sure to leave your name and a phone number where you will be reachable for the next hour.

Chimo’s crisis program is designed to provide brief services to assist children/youth and their family in stabilizing the current crisis situation. This may involve an offer of brief services.  What is felt to be a crisis situation vary by individuals and families but may include the following;

  • Thought or actions related to self/harm
  • Threats to hurt one’s self
  • Sudden intense behavioural changes
  • Violent behaviour in a child or youth under the age of 18

Crisis services may involve service solely over the phone creating a safety plan or may involve a worker attending the family home or the family coming into the Lindsay office for an appointment.

If you are in a crisis and it is outside of our working hours please contact your local hospital or call 911.

If you are contacting us about a child or youth who has communicated a current plan to commit suicide you will be referred to your local hospital to be assessed.
